 I remember the first time I ever played on the PS2 at a friend’s house; my original PS was still hot from me using it day in and day out. Tekken3 was on and it was the first time I ever saw the game on a new platform. Needless to say, I was mesmerized, the graphics, the games, everything was amazing. It was as if a brand new world just opened up before me. The following day I woke up driven to save up and get my own PS2.
The PS2 is the best selling game console ever, the record was held before by its older brother, the Playstation. On its release on March 4, 2000 in Japan and was later released in North America on October 26, 2000 and in Europe on November 24, 2000., the PS2 broke all records for sales held before by the Sega Dreamcast. Key to its success is its game compatibility with old games from the previous Playstation, even making the old games better with its faster reading time and enhancing the graphics. Although this was a feature that excited every gamer, faster disc reading sometimes caused games to fail or load properly. Although this was just temporary until the catalogue grew and newer games designed specifically for the PS2 were available in the market.
The kit includes 2 controller inputs, a controller, 2 memory card inputs, 24x CD-Rom, 4x DVD player, 48-channel stereo, DVD-playback functionality, USB support, and IEEE 1394 expansion ports. The PS2 was the first game console to feature the later three features. Owning a Multitap accessory enables for four more controller inputs. Purchasing a Network Adapter enables for online multiplayer games, however, fast game play was not insured as any connection can connect to the internet, and this sometimes caused a lag in the game. This was rectified by game developers when online multiplayer games were developed only to support Broadband internet Access.
The amount of good titles coupled with the PS2’s Dual Shock 2 joypad makes the experience all the more worthwhile. An amazing engine for smooth graphics and sound, a huge library of games to choose from, it seems everything has been set for PS2 to be the all time favorite console. The PS2 in my opinion will only be surpassed by its predecessor, the PS3.
