Apple iPhone 5 – iPhone 5 is the latest Smartphone device of Apple Company. It was awaited by many buyers and even got lots of predictions and rumor mills from curious consumers about its looks, features and performance. However, the long days of waiting were over when Apple launched its phone into retail stores.

This Smartphone is amazingly lighter than iPhone 4 and from its opposition at 112g. iPhone 5 stands123.8mm in height and has a screen with a 4-inch retina display that lets you see more of everything. It has an ultra fast wireless with support for the latest wireless technologies that connects to more networks all over the world. Its processor is twice as fast as iPhone 4, which Apple claims. An A6 chip in iPhone 5 is powerful but not power hungry. The CPU and graphic performance are up to twice as fast as on the A5 chip.

Samsung Galaxy S III – There is an extreme competition of Smartphone makers to be the best and impressive phone in the eyes of the consumer. Galaxy S II comes with android 4.0 and Ice Cream Sandwich installed that is the best version of Google’s operating system. One of the most significant performances of Galaxy S III features 4G LTE. It has a 4.8in display and it is certainly big but it is a slim phone from front to back so it is more manageable than you think.

One good thing about Galaxy S III is that the screen will turn off automatically because of Smart Stay, which uses the front camera to periodically check if it can recognize a pair of eyes looking at it or not, the screen turns off to save power. Additionally, when talking about performance, Galaxy S III has the on-board quad-core processor that really helps viewing high definition videos smoothly. Samsung Galaxy S III offers a snappy performance, impressive cameras and great multi-tasking capabilities.

Getting a Smartphone for the first time can be very exciting. With its elegant style, great performance and outstanding benefits, we can never stop longing for these mobile phones.

Fleet Tracking: the Benefits of Latest Technological Developments

The life of a fleet manager is never easy. With drivers here, there and everywhere, sent across the country – or even the continent in some cases – at all hours of the day to make deliveries and collections, it can be particularly difficult to remain in touch with them to make sure everything is going according to plan.

Talking on the phone is not only ill advised, it’s illegal, and while hands-free devices have become much more user-friendly in recent years they still distract the driver from their duty to some extent. So rather than waiting until they take their compulsory breaks to find out where their drivers are, fleet owners have invested in some of the latest technology to keep a close eye on every single one of their vehicles.

Taking GPS technology similar to that used in satellite navigation systems, vehicles can now be fitted with devices that provide an accurate location of the vehicle, reporting it back to the fleet manager at the depot. This is proving to be highly beneficial in numerous ways in addition to helping the fleet manager to monitor locations.

For example, if they get a call from a customer wondering where their delivery is, the manager can access the location of the vehicle and report back to the customer exactly where the driver is and how long it should take them to arrive

In addition, insurance companies are looking favorably at vehicles with these devices fitted because they reduce the risk of the vehicle being lost permanently and having to make significant payouts. This benefits the company hugely, because insurance – especially in the haulage industry – can be a huge part of the annual budget. Anything that can be saved and either added to company profits or reinvested in another area of the business can only be a good thing in tricky financial times for all businesses.

HTC 8X Review

The edgy and unconventional design of HTC 8X phone makes it score a brownie point on the looks front. And if you thought that this Windows Phone 8 powered smartphone comes only with attractive looks, then you are absolutely wrong. HTC 8X smartphone, apart from its exquisite design, also brings a bag full of covetable goodies.

The Look, Design and Display:

The HTC 8X comes with a simple and elegant design. Being 5.2 inches in length and 2.6 inches in width, this phone is certainly thin. But the weight may be a concern for some as it weighs close to 4.6 ounces. The smartphone is slim and comes with squared corners that manage to draw the attention of awestruck gazers immediately. Even without well-rounded edges, the smartphone certainly gives off an air of elegance. This smartphone comes in trendy colors, red, yellow, California Blue and black. The large screen is flanked by black bezels that provide contrast to the phones bright colors. While up front the smartphone looks like a strict cop, the sides make you think of a super-cool colleague! With a soft touch finish to its back, the smartphone sits well in the hands. It feels cool and the grip is firm as well.

As expected in a Windows Phone 8 smartphone, the HTC 8X comes with Live tiles on its 4.3 inch Super LCD screen. This display brings to you 1280 X 720 pixel resolution. The images on the screen look brilliant and vibrant thanks to HTC 8X display’s 342 pixels per inch.  You’ll find three capacitive buttons just below the display screen. These three buttons help you navigate to your home screen, back and to the search tool, Bing. To launch the TellMe voice app, all you need to do is long-press the Start button.

You’d find a 3.5mm headset jack and a power button on the top rim of the phone. On the phone’s right spine you’ll find the volume control and the camera shutter button. The buttons seem to have a low profile as they are not easily palpable. While on call, you might have trouble adjusting the phone’s volume. You have a Micro USB port on the bottom for charging.

The OS and Hardware:

Needless to say, the HTC 8X works on Windows Phone 8 operating system. Coming with 1GB RAM, this smartphone is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor. So, you can be sure that the latest from HTC will certainly be fast. The smartphone comes with 16 GB flash memory but without the ability to increase it. The smartphone is slated to support Bluetooth 2.1, A-GPS and NFC.

The Battery, camera and apps:

On the top most corner of the display you would find HTC 8X’s front facing 2MP camera. An 8 MP sensor with LED flash adorns the back panel of the smartphone. This phone sometimes throws up a dilemma for which we are not able to find clear answers. The phone’s camera is very good when it is good and incredibly bad when it takes the turn towards the bad. Sometimes, the camera throws up very beautiful pictures, hitting the right colors, sharpness and detail with absolute accuracy. And at times, the camera manages to miss the spot completely. Although the phone comes with an 8MP sensor, somehow the pictures don’t do justice.

The 8X comes with a strong Lithium ion 1800mAh battery that makes the phone sustain a whole day’s usage. HTC provides some of its apps and settings to its 8X smartphone. Since Microsoft doesn’t have too many apps to boast of, the HTC 8X offers few apps. An app aptly titled HTC offers up to date information about weather, news and stocks on the Live Tile.

Is it thumbs up or thumbs down for HTC?

Although HTC 8X has the best of design, display, top-class processor and enviable LTE speeds, it comes with a below par camera, memory and an average battery. We are still hoping to see more of this phone before forming an opinion.

Malware Targets Android Phones

FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) has panicked after finding a malware that targets the Android phones. The IC3, which is a partnership organization of Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Nation Collar Crime Center, said that the latest versions of malware that attack the Android’s OS are “Loozon” and “FinFisher.” The malware has different modus to lure Android users, first it will lure you by showing you an advertisement about “work at home” jobs with huge salary offer. Second, it will ask you to download the attached link which will eventually redirect you to a website that is contained with a Loozon malware.

According to IC3, “The malicious application steals contact details from the user’s address book and the infected device’s phone number.”

Once the FinFisher has infected a user’s phone, it can already be “remotely controlled and monitored no matter where the target is located,” IC3 further explained. According to reports, a FinFisher malware can be spread to your phone’s system if you visit a hyperlink or open a message that tells you about updating a system.

The Internet Crime Complaint Center told smartphone users not to worry, they also gave some safety tips to protect android phones from such malware. By enabling encryption, installing antivirus software, and setting up a passcode, the organization said that you can already guard your devices from personal data loss or theft. Such tips can also help you prevent connection from unknown third-party networks.

Stealing private online information is now becoming a common problem in the U.S, a study says that one out of every four Americans had lost his personal identification or stolen because of information thefts from the past years.

Is Facebook Developing its Phone?

Having heard rumors about Facebook secretly building a phone was thought to be only that up until now. Yes, the social networking giant has been eyeing to get into the phone business for many years now and recently it finally made a big step by tapping into the huge Taiwanese cellphone company called HTC. As it plans to build a facebook phone, of course, they’ll be incorporating Facebook and its’ applications as highlight.

With a code-name “Buffy” gotten from the hit television show about a vampire slayer, the phone is supposed to run on an Android but a modified version at that. Facebook needs to tweak it heavily in order to fully integrate its services and at the same time have a platform for applications, which can support HTML5 according to the reports. This consequentially, made them busy for two years now – developing the “Buffy” phone. It clearly shows Facebook’s keen interest in joining the closely competitive cell phone business needing to go against two very big competitors namely Google and Apple.

But why is Facebook planning on this mobile business move? Knowing already that the two companies (Google & Apple) are pretty much wrapping up the market lately. Well, it is simply because of the ever-growing consumer technology sector nowadays where it boldly participates along with their proposed facebook phone. This is also, due to what Facebook foresees with the mobile industry; what could they use as leverage, what could serve as advantage. .

True enough with Facebook, having 350 million active mobile users as well as 475 global mobile operator relationships could prove to be a promising business venture of the social networking company. In addition, facebook has become one of the most popular applications. No wonder everyone has it on his or her phones. . Although much has yet to be seen and heard, we are still looking forward on its supposed release and launching date. How soon? That I don’t know as of the moment but we’ll just see and find out if the facebook phone can indeed meet up to the standards of its other well-known competitors.

Ways to Protect Your Phone with Accessories

You get a new phone. It is your pride and joy. Everywhere you go, it goes. But then one day your phone has a nasty accident, gets kidnapped or gets infiltrated by an enemy covert operations unit and subjected to a virulent brainwashing attack and it is never the same again. All these scenarios happen. They happen very regularly, in fact. The good news is that there is a lot you can do about it. Below is a range of armour to protect your, well let’s face it, your nearest and dearest.

Invisi-shield protectors

If I had a pound for every time one of my friends, or indeed my good self, cracked the screen on a mobile phone I would be a millionaire. Mobile phone screens are fragile little things and they just don’t do well when get dropped, smashed angrily against a wall in frustration, have hot tea liberally applied all over the surface or get stepped on by your big oaf of a brother. The problem is that a cracked screen, when not a status symbol of the uncaring too-cool-for-school types, is very annoying and of course not cheap or that easy to replace. Invisi-shield protectors are cheap mobile-screen saving devices.

Silicone Covers

More of a fashion statement than a real protector. These come in a range of different patterns and designs. They particularly appeal to teenage girls looking for a bit of bling on the back of their phone. For some reason my girlfriend also loves them and has one with very fetching plastic diamond studs arranged in the shape of a cat. She loves having the cat stare up at her when we go out to eat. I have developed a slight fear of the feline monstrosity. But then, I am easily scared…

Camden Town, London, and in fact almost any place with market stalls, will sell them in an abundance of styles. Unfortunately, where they succeed in looking – cough, cough, hack, cough and cough again  – cool, they lack anything like even basic protection. In fact, I only included them in this article so I could provide you with a very clear, stark piece of advice to invest your fiver (please tell me you didn’t pay anymore) on anything but them. In addition to providing nothing in the way of protection for your screen, which in case you had forgotten is the most vulnerable part of your phone, they give a false sense of security and also make your new sleek iPhoneor Galaxy Nexuslook clunky. They are also a nightmare to get out your pocket as the material tends to stick to your pocket with an unrelenting vice-like grip not seen since The Blob, which is very tedious indeed.

Hanging pouches

Another one for the fashion unconscious. Actually, I must confess to liking these a little, so much so that I even bought one for my mum once. She loved it. I reckon a bit more love goes into the design, but having one of these hanging around your neck might not be the epitome of cool. The general feeling is that in a professional environment it is acceptable – you always see them in conferences – but that you better keep them hidden behind a top of some kind if you don’t want to draw stares in the street. Such blatant advertising of your wares also may accidentally target an undesirable grouping, namely thieves. Perhaps keep this one under wraps on a boozy Friday night on the town.

Pouches do keep your phone very safe from accidental knocks. And unless you run very fast straight into a wall or any other large stationary, impassable object, your phone will be well protected. That is until you decide to take it out while running down the street and leave it at the mercy of your butterfingers.

Could Samsung Ban in United States be Overturned?

Earlier this year Apple won an unprecedented court victory against Samsung in a Californian patent dispute, in which the Korean technology giant was found to have copied Apple’s designs and infringed upon some of its design patents, and was ordered to pay the US company more than $1 billion in damages. Several Samsung devices, including several US variations of the Galaxy S and Galaxy S2, were also pulled from sale in the United States.

One of the disputed patents was regarding the “rubber band” feature, whereby the screen will “bounce back” once the user has scrolled past the end of a list. This feature was used on Apple’s iPhone and iPad but was also found on many Samsung devices running Android with TouchWiz. Apple’s claim was that Samsung had copied this design feature, which was patented by Apple, and that this along with many other copied features had led to confusion amongst customers who were subsequently unable to distinguish between Samsung and Apple products.

But the United States Patents and Trademark Office (USPTO) has this week invalidated the Apple patent covering this feature after an anonymous reconsideration request was filed earlier this year. Although it is not known exactly who filed this request, it is likely to be one of Apple’s competitors, with Samsung most likely being the company responsible. (However, after a barrage of lawsuits against various Android manufacturers, there are no shortage of tech companies who would love to see Apple lose many of its patents).

USPTO has rejected patent 7,469,381 on the grounds that there is already prior art for such a feature, and that Apple’s design does not involve any inventive steps upon this earlier implementation. USPTO has highlighted that such a design feature was found in an earlier patent for “controlling content display” filed by AOL and Luigi Lira in 2003, and also another patent for “continuous scrolling list with acceleration”, which ironically lists Apple boss Scott Forstall as one of the inventors.

The news that USPTO has overturned this patent, which was a key part of Apple’s victory over Samsung earlier this year, comes shortly after Californian judge Lucy Koh has begun considering a “Rule 50 motion” regarding the earlier court verdict. As the court verdict is being reconsidered, the invalidation of this particular patent could completely overturn the original jury decision, and mean that Samsung will no longer have to pay the $1 billion damages to Apple. This decision would also highlight the absurdity of many technology design patents which, rather than protection innovation, merely seem to move competition to the court room.

Samsung has already removed the “rubber band” feature from its US Android devices in response to Apple’s earlier court victory. Although the court injunction could be overturned and Samsung could reintroduce the feature it may just as easily omit the design from all future products, considering that it is probably not worth the potential trouble it has caused. It is certainly not worth a billion dollar
